HOWARD STEVENSON BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Howard is a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He received
his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Indiana University in
1989. Howard graduated from Indiana University School
of Law – Indianapolis
with a J.D. degree in 1993. Following law school, he
received a prestigious offer to serve as a judicial law
clerk on the Indiana
Supreme Court. While at the Court from 1993- 1994, he
worked for the Honorable Richard M. Givan wherein he
analyzed and researched
legal issues on appeal and drafted memoranda for published
majority opinions. From 1994 -1998, he was employed as
an attorney with
UAW Legal Services concentrating his practice in the
areas of real estate, estate planning, and litigation.
Following this, he accepted
a job with the Office of the Attorney General of Indiana
and later became the Section Chief of the real estate
and tort litigation
sections. Howard was responsible for all eminent domain
and real estate matters involving the state of Indiana.
In this capacity,
Howard litigated cases and supervised 15 attorneys. He
held this position until 2002, when he became the General
Counsel for the
Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. In
this capacity, Howard provided legal and policy recommendations
to the senior
staff of an agency with a 5 billion dollar budget and
over 10,000 employees. He also supervised 30 attorneys
in the central and regional
offices of the agency.
In December 2003, Howard became the managing attorney
for the Indiana Department of Transportation wherein
he supervised the legal department and provided legal and policy
advice to senior
staff on issues involving real estate, contracts and
lawsuits. Howard is currently a founder and partner in the corporate
law
firm of Coleman Stevenson & Montel, LLP where he practices in the
areas of real estate, business & commercial law, municipal
finance and entertainment law.
